My Favourite Film

Nothing much to say tonight.  I have been up since 5am (Australia progressed to the next round of the World Cup! !!!! !!!) and then spent most of the day driving all over Gippsland looking at footpaths (don't ask!).  I'm tired, and probably not convincingly coherent so continue on at your own risk.

Anyway.  I might be onto something here:

Not much more about it until I think a bit (oh no not that again!).

Anyway.

A number of years ago (2000 or 2001?) I saw Wong Kar-wai's film In the Mood for Love at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Until tonight, I had not watched it again but I had consistantly rated it as my favourite film as it had lingered so convincingly in my brain for so long.  (Pulp Fiction is a close second).

So, I saw it again tonight on DVD.  I was nervous.

Bloody hell! It is as good as I remember it.  What a miracle!  Maggie Chung is the most beautiful woman ever, her costumes are breathtaking.  Sigh.... sigh......sigh.  The film looks so good and the acting so wonderful I can totally deal with the sparse storyline.   Here is a wordy review if you are up for it.

Is it still my favourite film?  Perhaps Pulp Fiction (do I really need to link it?) pips it at the post for sheer brilliance and rewatchability and complexity and dialogue and appearance and .... Fuck it.  I'll just sit on the fence.  I wont choose.  I wont.
