Jellyfish
YellowI took this photo on Friday - a shadow on a rubbish skip. We recently bought a small digital camera so I can carry it around in my bag and capture photos whenever the mood strikes. We also bought a waterproof housing for it so we can take photos when kayaking or swimming :-)
Like this photo Riscy took of a Jellyfish in Bathurst Harbour. There were thousands of these floating around in the tannin stained waters of Bathurst Harbour and Port Davey. You can't really tell from this photo, but they were an orangy pink colour and very beautiful with their long tenticle/stingers trailing behind. On Saturday we Kayaked down the Tambo River from Swan Reach to the Gippsland Lakes and then back up again. There were lots of people out along the banks and in their tinnies fishing. And there were also thousands of large clear jellyfish, Riscy took this one too.... and wont be happy that it is not in focus (but he is forgiven because it isn't easy to take a photo over the side of a kayak, of a transparent creature... in silty water). Unfortunately, because the water is a bit cloudy, none of the photos show the huge number of jellyfish congregated at this particular location. It was amazing. From a quick google search I think this species is called Catolstylus mosaicus. Apparently there is a commercial fishery operating in the Lakes which exports dried jellyfish to the asian markets. I wonder what they taste like (salty no doubt).
