Today

Hi.  I don't know why I haven't posted much over the last couple of weeks.  I have been here, and I have been creative.  I just haven't felt like blogging very often.

Above is a detail of a drawing I did in the Morwell National Park on Saturday.  Unfortunately the paper I grabbed on the way out of the house was a VERY soft japanese printmaking paper and my charcoals tended to rip it to shreds.

I was pretty pissed off when I found this out, as I had lugged my drawing board (a big piece of plywood) a couple of kilometres up a hill before I settled on a spot and got everything set up...  I worked around it but it could have been better.  This photo was taken while we were at the national park, I haven't looked at the drawings since.

After the 3 hours at the national park we went over to the ARC Yinnar 25th birthday exhibition opening.  I had a piece (The Dredger) in the (open) exhibition, the first time I've exhibited any of my art work in my local area.  I was a bit apprehensive about it.  But it worked out ok.  I noticed some people really looking at the piece and one of the other members of ARC mentioned that she was surprised to see that it was my work.  So people know now.

By the way, the above photo is of the lizard print in my journal.  Without much thought I printed it over a blind contour drawing I did of a glove.  It looked a bit crap, so I coloured it in with water colours.  It didn't dawn on me til I was half way through that I could have coloured the inside of the lizard a different value or colour from the outside, to make it stand out.  Perhaps it is a camoflage lizard though LOL.

The drawing above is from the opposite page.   It isn't really anything, but I rather like it.

Today is Anzac day.  We did not attend any services or parades.  I sewed all day.  I think I've wrecked 'The Gate' quilt, but I think I'll sit on it a while before I toss it aside for good.  I've also been sewing up a traditional quilt top... a gift, so perhaps not for showing here on the blog (though I may give up on that rule at some stage in the future).

Eek - I know that sinking,

Eek - I know that sinking, wrecking feeling. Sometimes a quilt comes good in the end. Sometimes it just stays, well, wrecked. Mostly it is still a valuable learning experience but sometimes it represents a waste of energy that should be let go. Welcome to a creative life - the good, the bad and the ugly.

I think it was an incorrect

I think it was an incorrect thread choice that has done it. I'm sure I can salvage something from it, but it may have to marinate for a while before I get back to it.

i have this feeling that one

i have this feeling that one day i will just wake up and not remember to blog, ever..... your work is really unique. i like the hard but oh so fine lines against your blended soft edge color fields. and liking the one that "isn't really anything"

Blogging is in a wierd place

Blogging is in a wierd place in my life, sometimes it is really important, othertimes it is a very minor periphery and I wonder why I do it. I enjoy sharing and connecting with artists and textile practitioners, so at this stage I'm keen to continue. And thanks for the comment about the 'isn't really anything' piece, I hesitated to post it, but I liked it, so why not.

Hi Claire, I haven't been

Hi Claire, I haven't been reading for a while due to all the moving (and lack of internet) but it has been nice to catch up on all of your projects. I really like the lizard lino you recently posted. I like the way no one layer stands out and the images blend together giving it a dimensional affect. You'll have to let me know the next time you plan to come to Melbourne so we can catch up - you're welcome to stay with us anytime. We've got a heap of family visting in May early June but perhaps after that we will come and visit you. It will be nice to see your creations in real life. Well better go cause am at work :)

Hi Carol Yes we will have

Hi Carol :-) Yes we will have to catch up soon. It looks likely that I will be working in melbourne for three weeks in June/July, so I imagine that there will be a couple of opportunities during that time :-) Cheers Claire

I love the lizard

I love the lizard print/glove drawing - it works beautifully as a piece of art - and that it had its beginnings as something real and you have transformed it to have its own life - it is really good !

Thanks Mandy I'm just

Thanks Mandy :-) I'm just about to email you.
