Drawing

Plugged

The above image is taken from one of my little journals.. .the drawing is of the elecrical plug for my iron.  Have you noticed that these yellowy greens are a current obsession of mine?  I'm seriously besotted.

I also worked on a painting on canvas today and I'm rather happy with it, there's probably a bit more required, but I'm pleased with the direction.  I might buy some more canvases this week as I find it so much fun to work with paint. I'm in love with the colours more than anything else.

I haven't been on the net much in the past couple of week but I have bookmarked some interesting artists who I would like to share with you.

Kate Blee is a British textile artist, I love the colours she uses. I can't seem to link to my favourite pieces, but if you go to the link title Wall and then the link Vessel, you'll see my favourite piece... that bloody green again!

Kirsty Hall has an interesting project going drawing on the back of envelopes, filling them with things, then posting them to herself.  A complex sort of set up, but her envelope drawings are facinating to me.

Highs and Lows

The skiing at Hotham was wonderful.  I didn't want to leave.  By the end I was going very nicely, parallel skiing down the easier blue runs and dealing with mogols without too much fuss.  :-)

Riscy took the photo above from the top of the Summit Run at Hotham looking towards Mount Feathertop.

It was a 6 hour bus ride for me to get to Hotham on Friday night, I was working in Melbourne late last week, so couldn't drive up with everyone else on Friday morning. I got in at quarter to midnight, just in time to hire my skis and boots before the hire shop closed so I would be ready to burst onto the slopes as early as possible on Saturday morning.  We were very lucky to have our friend Wendy skiing with us, she is an excellent coach and had us really flying by the end of the weekend.  I'm keen to go back as soon as possible.

There were 14 of us staying at the apartment in the village, it was so much fun and lots of great food too!  To top the weekend off, two of the girls saw my felted scarves and are really keen to learn how to felt, so I'm gonna have them over for a feltmaking party one weekend soon!!

I've got some rare time in my workroom tonight, so I'm hoping to have some more white quilts so show in the next day or so.

Booklets

I've made a few little sketchbooks recently.  Pamphlet style and bound using my sewing machine.  As simple as you can get!!

They are a handy little size for everyday use.  I love starting visual journals but tend to abandon them before I've used even a quarter of the pages.  My idea with these little booklets is that there aren't many pages, so perhaps they'll fill up before I get sick of them...  Plus they are fun to make :-)

Helle has tagged me with a meme:

Here are 7 random facts/habits about myself:

1.  Today marks the 10th year my partner Chris (aka Riscy) have been together.  He is my best friend and I love him more and more every day.  We are going out for curry tonight to celebrate :-)

2.  I have never wanted to be married.

3.  I was bought up as a Seventh-day Adventist.  I would probably still be one, except I don't think God exists, or any other higher or lower beings for that matter.

4.  I love making stuff.  But more than that, I love learning how things are made, thinking up stuff, planning, dreaming and starting projects.  I'm less inclined to actually finish things.  I need to work more quickly, more spontaneously and more playfully.  I will be focussing on this in the coming months.

5.  We are planning to travel to India later this year or early next year.

6.  I am a Civil Engineer.  My role involves planning and obtaining funding for road projects.  It is the most enjoyable and satisfying job I have had so far.

7.  Riscy thinks my biological clock might have started ticking because I can't seem to stop buying bedlinen, and he thinks it is a sign of nesting (where the hell did he get this terminology from anyway??).  I'm not so sure.  I bought some nice sheets earlier on this year and they were so nice compared to the old sheets we had from Target, that now, I just can't resist the urge to browse through bins of doona covers and sheets when ever we go to Harvey Norman or Myer.

Weed and Shadow

A shadow of some weeds I picked  this afternoon...I left the mother weed there to see if it produces more of these beautiful soft seed/flower heads.

I've got a beautiful rose stuck in that vase now, the weed sorta acts like baby's breath and it is a rather pleasant effect.

I tried to trace the shadow onto a big piece of paper... It looked pretty good, but I couldn't get a decent photo of the whole thing, this is a detail

Then I tried to turn this into a painting.  It is truely awful (I'm too prideful to share it with you).  I think I'll spend some time trying to save it, otherwise I'm gonna just gesso the whole thing and try again at some stage, perhaps with paint right from the start.

No links today, I haven't been surfing much lately.

Riscy is on call this weekend, my poor sweety.  He got called in at about 9 last night and didn't get back til 2.  Then got called in at 6 this morning and is now coming home (it's just past 6pm now).  He's collecting some wine for me on the way, he can't drink... since he is on call :-(  We are also missing a dinner party tonight because of this, so I'm going to cook up a 'bit of everything soup'.

Little Drawings

Four days at home this Easter.  I have already started to climb out of the blues and potter around (which is my favourite thing to do).  Washing is in the machine, hot cross bun dough is rising and I have done some little drawings to warm my artistic self back up again :-).  I like their lino cut sort of feel.  I think I'll even get out my new lino cut tools this afternoon and give them a whirl :-)

I've been a bit quiet on the internet over the last fortnight, but I have re-discovered some wonderful artists:

Davernator:  The blog of Anna Davern of Melbourne.  Anna is a jeweller, and she is currently teaching in Europe :-)  I have been checking her blog for a week or so now and I didn't go to her website until just then, and I realised that she is the maker of some fantastic little sculptures I saw at an exhibition at the Latrobe Regional Gallery in 2005 (was it that long ago - shit!!).  I'm pretty sure I even emailed her to let her know how much I liked her work (not something I normally do).

Sonji Says: The blog of Sonji Hunt of Milwaukee.  Sonji makes the most vibrant and shapely quilts I have ever seen.  I used to follow her blog but she stopped posting for a while so I moved on.  I happened upon it again the other day and it is chocked full of new and exciting work YAY!
